We're Raising More Supported Kids Than Ever. So, Why Are So Many Less Independent?
Kids are more connected, more supervised, and more supported than ever. So why are so many struggling with independence? The answer may have less to do with motivation and more to do with the opportunities they have had to practice executive function skills in real life.
The Most Powerful Visual Your Child Will Ever Have Is You
Parents spend countless hours searching for the perfect planner at start of a new school year.
We buy calendars, dry-erase boards, timers, sticky notes, visual schedules, and organization systems that we hope will finally “click” for our kids.
We do it because we love them.
We want to make life easier. We want to reduce the chaos. We want to help them succeed.
And there’s nothing wrong with those tools. In fact, many of them can be incredibly helpful when consistently taught how and why to use them.
But somewhere along the way, I think we’ve overlooked the most powerful visual support our children have.
It’s us.
